WE ARE
DEDICATED TO FREEDOM.

We exist so that every woman will live in freedom and know that she is more than sexual injustice.

Millions of slaves.
A $150 billion DOLLAR industry.
LESS THAN 1% ARE ever rescued.

We believe in a world without slavery. For ten years, we’ve had our boots on the ground in the U.S. and Uganda working towards the eradication of sexual slavery worldwide. To see women wholly set free from sexual slavery mind, body, and soul.

Our Story

She Is More Than began in the heart of A.C. Black.

As a survivor of sexual abuse, A.C. knows how sexual assault can devastate a life. However, these very experiences ultimately became the driving force behind the launch of what is now a global anti-trafficking organization.

In 2011, A.C. traveled to Uganda with another organization devoted to helping women and babies with AIDS. While there, she encountered girls as young as eight being bought and sold in brothels. This could not stand, and so She Is More Than was birthed shortly after in 2013.

We are now one of only three organizations in the whole of Uganda certified by the government to provide restorative aftercare for teenage girls who have been victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse. She Is More Than is also passionate about our hometown communities in Central Florida and we are active in the U.S. in a variety of ways.

Most are shocked to hear how many young people are approached and groomed on social media every day. How traffickers live in our own communities and prey on our friends and family.
— Lauren Bernard, Executive Director of She Is More Than

As a member of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department task force in Central Florida, She Is More Than helps to identify local trafficking trends as well as collaborates with other like-minded organizations and advocacy groups to educate and serve our communities accordingly. Our current focus is on prostitute outreach and public school awareness initiatives. She Is More Than has hosted awareness events, participated in panels, and gone into local middle school, high school, and college campuses to speak with students and faculties about human trafficking on both a local and global scale. By speaking with those who may directly be targeted, we empower them with the knowledge to keep themselves and each other safe from potential danger. Our talks have also helped teachers and administrators recognize the need to add information about human trafficking to middle and high school curriculums.

UGANDA | CENTRAL FLORIDA

We operate a live-in restoration facility for female teen survivors of human trafficking in Uganda while raising support and awareness about the realities and dangers of human trafficking in Central Florida.

Our restoration facility in Uganda provides safe housing, trauma-informed therapy, medical care, academic tutoring, and life skills training to young female survivors all in the hopes of breaking the cycle of abuse and setting each girl FREE once and for all.

When I lived there, we’d play hide and seek and tag…all sorts of games. I’d watch a somber face come home and be instantly transformed. A game of tag lit them up with joy. The feeling of safety is healing for their souls.
